Terms and Conditions — Synfo
Updated: October 2026
Version: 1.04
1. Scope of application
These Terms and Conditions govern the use of the mobile application Synfo (the “App”) and related services operated by
Patrick Zelger
Via Rasmo 81
39100 Bolzano (BZ)
Italy
Email: support@synfoapp.com
(the “Provider”).
By installing, registering for or using the App, you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Nature of the service
2.1 Information service
Synfo is exclusively a technical service for collecting, organising, displaying and forwarding information that originates, in whole or in part, from third-party sources. The App is not an emergency, first-response, civil-protection or safety-alert app. Accordingly:
- it does not issue official alerts;
- it does not create emergency reports on its own;
- it does not guarantee that every relevant event will be reported;
- it does not individually assess the concrete risk for each user;
- it assumes no obligation of continuous or personalised monitoring.
2.2 No substitute for official channels
Synfo does not replace official alert and information systems (such as civil-protection sirens or national cell-broadcast systems), authorities, emergency services or medical advice. In an emergency you must contact the local emergency number or the competent authorities.
2.3 Categories and classification of content
| Category | Description |
|---|---|
| Reports | Forwarding of official information (e.g. seismological sources) |
| Advisories | General location-based information (e.g. local events) |
| Traffic information | Information on traffic conditions and disruptions |
Which categories you receive depends on your settings.
3. Availability and third-party content
3.1 No guarantee of completeness
The Provider does not guarantee:
- continuous, uninterrupted or error-free availability of the App;
- timely receipt or actual delivery of push notifications;
- the continued existence of specific features;
- compatibility with all devices, operating systems or software versions;
- continuity of external data sources;
- completeness, accuracy, reliability, currency or suitability of received or forwarded content.
You acknowledge that delays, omissions, duplicates, failed delivery or inaccurate classification of information may result from technical, network or system factors, third-party platforms or the original sources.
3.2 Third-party content
Content comes from external sources and is their responsibility. Synfo indicates — where possible — the source and links to it. For third-party content, only the respective source provider is responsible.
The Provider:
- does not act as publisher of third-party content;
- does not carry out a systematic prior review of received content;
- may remove, suspend, filter, reorganise or not display certain content at its discretion, without any duty to give reasons.
3.3 Technical limitations
Delivery may be impaired by factors beyond the Provider’s control, without liability of the Provider: device battery-saving modes, lack of connectivity, disabled notifications, missing location permissions, operating-system background restrictions, maintenance or outages of Firebase, Google, Apple or external APIs.
4. Registration and account
4.1 Guest use
Parts of the App can be used without registration (guest mode). Features may be limited.
4.2 Registered account
With voluntary registration you undertake to provide accurate data and to keep your credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activities carried out through your account, unless you prove abusive use by third parties that is not attributable to your negligence.
4.3 Termination by the user
You may end use at any time by uninstalling the App and — if applicable — deleting your account in the settings or contacting us for deletion.
4.4 Suspension and deletion by the Provider
The Provider may at any time and at its discretion suspend, restrict, deactivate or delete access to the App or the account with immediate effect, in particular in the event of:
- breach of these Terms;
- abnormal, unlawful, fraudulent or potentially harmful use;
- risk to the security, stability or integrity of the service;
- requests by competent authorities;
- discontinuation or reorganisation of the service.
You will have no right to any indemnity, refund or compensation for such measures.
5. Location and push notifications
5.1 Location on the device and Geohash on the server
For energy-efficient location-based filtering of advisories, the App uses the device location (preferably via Wi‑Fi and cell towers to save battery).
- GPS coordinates (latitude/longitude) are stored exclusively locally on the device and are not transmitted to the server as exact coordinates.
- For push subscriptions and the technical background service, the App transmits only approximate area identifiers (Geohash) — rectangular cells of about 1.2 km to about 20 km side length (levels 4, 5 or 6).
- From a Geohash no exact location can be derived, only an approximate area of stay.
5.2 Permissions
You can revoke all permissions in the device settings. Revocation means location-based features are no longer available.
5.3 Push messages
Push notifications are used to deliver reports and information. You can disable these permissions at any time in your smartphone settings.
5.4 Voluntary feedback on hail advisories
If the App asks, for a hail advisory, whether hail fell, the following applies:
- The answer is voluntary and consists only of yes or no for that specific advisory.
- It is not an official confirmation. It neither validates nor invalidates the advisory and does not replace a report to the competent authority.
- The Provider may discard obviously implausible answers.
- One answer is possible per advisory.
- Which data is processed is set out in the privacy policy.
6. Licence of use and intellectual property
6.1 Limited licence
Unless otherwise provided, the Provider grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable licence to use the App solely for private and lawful purposes in accordance with these Terms.
6.2 Reserved rights
All intellectual and industrial property rights relating to the App, its structure, interface, software, databases, graphic elements, trademarks, logos, texts, compilations and technical components belong to the Provider or the respective licensors.
6.3 Prohibitions
Unless expressly authorised in writing by the Provider or mandatorily permitted by law, it is prohibited to:
- copy, distribute, make available, sell, rent or licence the App;
- decompile, disassemble, decrypt or attempt to derive the source code;
- circumvent technical protection measures;
- use bots, scrapers or unauthorised automated systems;
- commercially exploit the App or its content.
7. User obligations and responsibility
You undertake in particular to:
- not misuse the App (e.g. no manipulation, reverse engineering for unlawful purposes, overloading of servers);
- not transmit false location or account data;
- not give a knowingly false answer in hail feedback;
- never use forwarded information as the sole basis for decisions in safety-relevant situations;
- respect the rights of third parties.
8. Liability
8.1 Limitation of liability
The Provider is liable only for breach of essential contractual obligations, limited to foreseeable and typical damage.
8.2 No liability for decisions based on the App
The Provider assumes no liability for damage arising from users making decisions based solely on content shown in the App (e.g. staying in an area, travel planning, evacuation). Voluntary hail feedback from other users is not an official confirmation. It is your responsibility to verify the situation with local official sources.
8.3 No liability for third-party content
To the extent permitted by law, the Provider is not liable for damage, losses, costs or consequences arising from:
- missed, delayed or inaccurate receipt of notifications;
- omissions or inaccuracies in third-party content;
- temporary unavailability of the App or individual features;
- decisions you take solely or mainly on the basis of information shown in the App;
- loss of opportunity, lost profits, business interruption, or indirect, incidental or consequential damage;
- use of the App in contexts or for purposes where certified systems, official facilities or independent verification would be required.
9. Privacy and communications
9.1 Privacy
Processing of personal data is governed by the Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of these Terms.
9.2 Service communications
You agree to receive technical, operational, informational and contractual communications relating to the App by email, in-app notifications, push or other channels you provide.
9.3 Promotional communications
Unless otherwise provided by applicable law and by preferences you have expressly stated, the Provider may send promotional communications about its own services or features. Any disclosure of personal data to third parties for promotional purposes will occur only within the limits of applicable law and the Privacy Policy.
10. Changes
10.1 App and service
The Provider may modify, expand or limit the App, its features, data sources and technical implementation at any time.
10.2 Terms and Conditions
The Provider may amend these Terms with future effect. You will be informed of material changes — where reasonable — within the App. Continued use after they take effect constitutes acceptance, unless otherwise required by law.
11. Final provisions
11.1 Applicable law
The law of the Italian Republic applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. For consumers, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the state of habitual residence remain unaffected.
11.2 Place of jurisdiction
If the user acts in the exercise of a business, commercial, craft or professional activity, or is a legal entity, the exclusive place of jurisdiction is Bolzano (Italy). For consumers, any mandatory place of jurisdiction under applicable law remains unaffected.
11.3 Severability
If individual provisions are invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions is unaffected.
11.4 Prevailing language
These Terms are provided in several languages. In the event of divergence, ambiguity or contradiction between language versions, the Italian version prevails, as it has undergone legal review.

End of the official Terms and Conditions
Personal note from the developer (unofficial part)
As you can see, the official legal texts are rather dry and must follow strict rules. As the developer of Synfo, outside the bureaucratic language, I want to make you a very personal promise:
Your data belongs to you. I will not disclose, market or sell it to third parties for advertising purposes under any circumstances.
If I should ever have the crazy idea of changing this philosophy and asking for your consent to personalised advertising, the following conditions will apply as cumulatively mandatory:
- The current chief executive officer (CEO) of Synfo (or of the parent company) must personally visit the affected user at their current place of residence.
- On site, the CEO must cook a full 6-course menu for the user and up to three additional guests of their choice.
- During preparation and dinner, the CEO must sing live and without error the entire opera “Turandot” by Giacomo Puccini.
- Only after completion of the culinary and musical performance may consent to data disclosure be given. Such consent mandatorily requires written form on physical paper and a handwritten signature. Electronic consents (e.g. in-app checkboxes) are in this case expressly void.
Since I enjoy cooking (so the dinner would be a real spectacle!), I absolutely cannot sing and would never have the time to do this for everyone, you can rest assured: your data is safe with Synfo!
